The 175℃ high-temperature measurement while drilling (MWD) and pressure while drilling (PWD) instrument independently developed by the Drilling Engineering Technology Research Institute of Xibu Drilling successfully completed tests in the ultra-deep well section (from 6,400 meters to 6,550 meters) of Well 2016, a vertical exploration well in the Tarim Oilfield. The maximum bottom hole temperature reached 151.6℃. The PWD + MWD measurement instrument operated continuously without failure for 130 hours. All tests were normal after the instrument was retrieved from the well. Its performance indicators have reached the international advanced level, indicating the capability to undertake measurement of well deviation, azimuth, temperature, and pressure in ultra-deep and super-deep wells while drilling.

The successful development of the high-temperature measurement while drilling instrument has broken foreign technology monopolies and laid a solid foundation for the development of high-performance series of measurement while drilling instruments. In the next step, more on-site tests in multiple wells will be carried out to further verify the reliability of the instrument and accelerate the industrial application of the instrument.
