In 2021, the rotary steering tool independently developed by our company was successfully applied in Well Niu 24 - 3111. The total time the tool was in the well was 96.5 hours, with an operating duration of 70.5 hours. The entire well construction was executed smoothly without any malfunctions.
Well Niu 24 - 3111 is a natural gas well located in Block Niu 18 of Ciyutuo in Liaohe Oilfield, and it is a directional well. This tool enables the drilling assembly to drill in a specified direction while maintaining a fully rotating state. Similar to a steering wheel in an automobile, on-site engineers can precisely control the wellbore trajectory, ensuring a smoother wellbore path, improved wellbore quality, reduced stuck pipe risks, and significantly shortened the well construction cycle.
For Well Niu 24 - 3111, in accordance with the well design, the well deviation was reduced (from 15.53° to 4.97°) and the azimuth was increased (from 195.15° to 233.81°) starting at the 2,673 - meter mark. The rotary steering system was deployed at 2,507 meters. Deploying the rotary steering tool in advance allows for an assessment of the build - up capacity. In this well section, conventional directional drilling suffered from severe pressure holding and poor directional performance. Adjacent wells experienced azimuth reduction during combined drilling operations. Deploying the rotary steering system can effectively enhance the rate of penetration.
During the rotary steering drilling process, a 33% steering force was utilized for drilling, and the build - up rate reached 3° per 30 meters, achieving high - precision trajectory control. A single string of the rotary steering tool achieved a total footage of 456 meters, with a cumulative operating time of 70.5 hours. Surface transmission, measurement while drilling, and downhole steering control all yielded optimal results. With a target radius of only 1.33 meters, it accurately intercepted Target 1 of the well.
The field application of this independently developed rotary steering tool has effectively verified the functionality, reliability, and precision of this rotary steering system.
